HydroFORM Semi-Automated Scanner

An easy-to-deploy 2-axis encoding PA solution, the HydroFORM semiautomated scanner enables fast and reliable high-resolution data acquisition of large surfaces. To ease raster scanning, it’s equipped with X and Y encoders, a unique water column system, and coupling check and position indicators.

HydroFORM Scanner

An easy-to-deploy 2-axis encoding phased array (PA) solution, the semiautomated HydroFORM™ scanner enables fast and reliable wall-thickness mapping and midwall damage detection by acquiring high-resolution data of large surfaces in minimal time. While the standard HydroFORM package comes equipped with the proven phased array linear probe and local immersion system, you can now choose for a dual array probe configuration. Both options allow for a resolution of up to 1 mm × 1mm.

To optimize the productivity of raster scanning, the HydroFORM system is equipped with several efficiency-boosting features:

  • Integrated X and Y axis encoders
  • Smart indexing button
  • Index position and coupling indicators
  • Scan speed check
  • Efficient bubble management (with I8 linear probe)
  • Easy-to-index magnetic wheels (with REX2 DLA probe)
  • Braking system

Easily adapting to curvatures 4 in. OD (101 mm) and greater, this PA solution facilitates a wide range of applications including:

  • Monitoring wall-thickness reductions due to corrosion, abrasion, and erosion
  • Detecting midfall damage, such as hydrogen-induced blistering or manufacturing-induced lamination, and differentiating these anomalies from loss of wall thickness

High-Performance Corrosion Mapping for Rough and Uneven Surfaces

Achieve immersion-tank-quality phased array inspection without concerns about water coupling. The HydroFORM scanner's unique low-flow water-column design with foam gaskets conforms to the surface, eliminating the need for a wedge.

Other innovative features of the HydroFORM water-coupling system:

  • Coupling check LED indicates when the water supply is too low
  • Gasket protector to prolong the use-life

Effortless High-Resolution Corrosion Mapping with the REX2 DLA Probe

Increase the versatility and efficiency of corrosion mapping with the HydroFORM scanner by opting for the REX2 Dual Linear Array™ probe.

  • See critical defects closer to the surface thanks to its high near-surface resolution enabled by angled transmitter-receiver arrays.
  • Optimized for phased coherence imaging (PCI) and total focusing method (TFM) imaging, improving the detection of corrosion mechanisms such as H2S.
  • Hard-wedged suspension system removes the need for an external water pump, easing difficult-access inspections, such as rope access or at heights.
  • Wheel stabilization promotes smoother scanning (compared with a carbide system).
  • 64 mm long active area and larger coverage (dual 64-element or dual 32-element) accelerates data acquisition, permitting high-throughput scanning with automated scanners, such as the motorized MapROVER scanner and remote-controlled SteerROVER scanner.

ScanDeck™ Module

Integrated Controls and Status Indicators

The ScanDeck module is like your scanning dashboard, situated directly in your eyeline while you operate the HydroFORM scanner.

Using a combined HydroFORM and OmniScan™ X4 solution, you fully benefit from all the functionalities of the ScanDeck module.

Control button:

  • Start the data acquisition on the OmniScan X4 unit
  • Switch between guided and freehand scanning modes
  • Toggle between index and scan axis scanning

Indicator LEDs:

  • Index position guidance
  • Insufficient coupling warning
  • Alert when maximum scan speed exceeded
  • Active encoder (X or Y)

Complete PA Solution

HydroFORM Scanner and Omniscan X4 Multitechnology Flaw Detector

By combining a water column system with gate synchronization on the interface echo available in the OmniScan X4 software, the HydroFORM scanner provides class-leading signal quality, reliable remaining wall measurements, and an enormous improvement in flaw characterization and imaging over conventional UT.

When combined with the REX2 DLA probe, the HydroFORM scanner further improves the near-surface resolution for applications where a constant water flow is impractical or logistically impossible. The REX2 DLA probe is also compatible with the latest advanced ultrasonic technologies, such as TFM and PCI.
